Two Arrested for Attempted Burglary PDF Print E-mail

On April 27th, at approximately 3:12 PM, the LMPD received a report of an attempted residential burglary in progress that was occurring in the 7500 block of High Street.

The victim was in their house when they heard someone attempting to open the door. A male and female were seen by the victim as they looked in windows on the side and back of the house. When officers arrived, they contacted the male in front of the house. The female was contacted on the side of the house. Both were detained without incident.

During the investigation, the male provided his brother's name in an attempt to hide his identity. There was no loss from the house and no injuries. Both suspects were booked into County Jail on the following charges: 42 year old Alonzo Gibbs of San Diego- 664/459 PC - Attempted Burglary and 529.3 PC- Providing false identification to a Peace Officer 38 year old Mary Gomez of San Diego- 664/459 PC- Attempted Burglary
 
Strong Arm Robbery at Liquor Store on Severin PDF Print E-mail

On April 27th, at approximately 7:04 PM, the LMPD received a report of a fight occurring in the 5900 block of Severin Drive.

When officers arrived, they discovered that the fight was actually an altercation between the liquor store employees and suspects that had stolen alcohol. The employees chased the suspects that included two males and two females out of the store and a fight ensued. During the fight, both employees were hit in the face by the two male suspects and sustained bruising, but refused medical attention. The loss was a bottle of alcohol. The suspects were last seen running south on Severin Drive. A search of the area by LMPD and ASTREA was negative for the suspects and they are still outstanding.

The suspects were described as follows:

Suspect #1- Hispanic male adult, approximately 5' 5", medium build, mid twenties, shaved head and mustache. The suspect was wearing a white tank top and jeans.

Suspect #2- Hispanic male adult, approximately 5' 5", medium build, mid twenties. Unknown clothing description.

Suspect #3- Hispanic or Filipino female adult, approximately 4' 0", thin build, mid twenties with long black hair. She was wearing a beige shirt and jeans.

Suspect #4- Hispanic female adult, approximately 5' 0", 140 pounds, curly dark shoulder length hair, wearing a leopard print shirt.

Update:
LMPD and Sheriff's helicopter have cleared the area at 6300 blk of Severin. Suspect was located and is in custody.

Current Alert
LMPD officers, ECPD and Sheriff's Helicopter are in the area of 6300 blk of Severin Dr looking for a black male possibly armed with a gun.
 
Man arrested for starting reckless fire that burns La Mesa houses PDF Print E-mail

On April 26th, at approximately 3:15 PM, the LMPD responded to the 9100 block of Dillion Drive to assist firefighters with traffic control and evacuations for a structure fire. After the fire was contained, LMPD Arson Investigators, Sgt. Michael Pierce and Officer Michael Butcher responded and began to investigate the cause with the assistance of fire personnel. During the investigation, it was discovered that a resident had extinguished a cigarette in the backyard, which caused the dry brush to catch fire. The fire quickly spread to the house and caused burn damage to another house, trees and fences.  The residents were able to escape the house and were contacted by the LMPD a short distance away. There were no injuries caused during the fire. The suspect was booked into San Diego County Jail on the following charge:

Armed Robbery at Los Piňos Taco Shop PDF Print E-mail

On 04/24/13 at approximately 9:52 PM, three males, one armed with a handgun, robbed the Los Piňos Taco Shop located at 5660 Lake Murray Boulevard in La Mesa.

The suspects entered the store and demanded cash. One of the suspects displayed a black semi-automatic handgun. After the clerk complied, the suspects left the store on foot toward the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Cowles Mountain Boulevard.

Officers searched the surrounding areas with assistance from San Diego Sheriff’s helicopter ASTREA and a San Diego Sheriff’s canine unit, but were unable to locate the suspects. The suspects are described as:

Suspect #1: black male adult in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 5’10, 165 lbs., wearing dark pants, a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, and a black bandana over his face.

Suspect #2: black male adult in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 5’10, 165 lbs., wearing dark clothing, eye glasses, and a black bandana over his face. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Suspect #3: black male adult in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 5’10, 165 lbs., wearing all dark clothing and a black bandana over his face.
